Cytopathology has been the backbone of the institute, ever since its inception as the Cytology Research Centre (CRC) in 1979. The major focus of the Division is to provide comprehensive diagnostic services, especially cervical cancer screening by cytology. In addition, high quality research in major cancers like breast, cervix and oral cavity is undertaken in conjunction with the clinical division. The Division of Cytopathology is also involved in human resource development by providing training programs for cytotechnologists in various cytology practices, including cancer screening. The division is comprised of a team of cytopathologists, scientists and technical staff.
